Introducing the SmarTest® family of products

Rapid quantitative self-tests for flexible health monitoring

What is a SmarTest?

SmarTests are revolutionary digital health tests that empower patients to monitor health conditions in the comfort of their own home. They can be used in conjunction with healthcare services for monitoring chronic diseases at home, or can be used to support individuals making decisions about their health and wellbeing.

SmarTests are lateral flow tests that detect specific analytes in biological samples, which are evaluated quantitatively of using test-specific apps that scan the results.

The apps incorporate QuantOn® technology developed by Preventis GmbH. By scanning the lateral flow test using a smartphone device, the apps determine the test results based on the colour intensity of the test bands to give quantitative values that correlate with gold standard methods.

All SmarTests from Preventis offer reliable, easy to use solutions for near-patient testing, introducing health-efficiencies and economic benefit to the patient and practice.

SmarTest Calprotectin

Calprotectin is an important marker of intestinal inflammation and is used routinely in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease. Close monitoring of faecal calprotectin levels helps to track disease activity and the effectiveness of therapy to improve health outcomes.

The SmarTest® Calprotectin Home test determines the level of calprotectin in stool samples in just 20 minutes. Results are quantified using the dedicated app and displayed immediately on the smartphone. The SmarTest® Calprotectin Home app also features a disease activity questionnaire to evaluate disease status based on symptoms. Results of the calprotectin test and disease activity questionnaire are automatically transmitted to the healthcare team for remote monitoring.*

SmarTest® Calprotectin System Features

  • Rapid quantitative home faecal calprotectin test
  • Validated IBD disease activity questionnaire
  • Room temperature storage
  • Pocket-sized kit
  • Test takes around 20 minutes in total
  • Free to use App**
  • Free to use web portal for healthcare professionals

SmarTest Vitamin D

Vitamin D is involved in various metabolic processes in the body and promotes the hardening of the bones by regulating calcium and phosphate metabolism. The body obtains vitamin D from two sources: firstly, absorbed from foods, and secondly, through exposure to sunlight (UV-B).

Preventis SmarTest® Vitamin D offers a combination of quick test and smartphone app for  the quantitative determination of 25-OH vitamin D levels at home or in a point-of-care clinic setting. For the quick test, a small blood sample is taken from the fingertip, quickly and painlessly. After 15 minutes, the result of the rapid test is evaluated via the SmarTest Vitamin D app.

Results of the SmarTest Vitamin D test are automatically transmitted to the healthcare team for remote monitoring.*

SmarTest® Vitamin D System Features

  • Rapid quantitative Vitamin D test for home or clinic use
  • Pro- and Home- test app versions available
  • Room temperature storage
  • Pocket-sized kit
  • Test takes around 20 minutes in total
  • Free to use App**
  • Free to use web portal for healthcare professional

SmarTest Ferritin

Ferritin is an iron storage protein and concentrations in blood represent the total iron store capacity. Iron is needed for the formation of haemoglobin, however, in its free form it is toxic to the body. Ferritin is a marker for detecting iron deficiency at an early stage. Regular monitoring of the ferritin status is recommended for individuals who are susceptible to iron deficiency or excess including those with coeliac disease or Crohn's disease.

Preventis SmarTest® Ferritin Home combines a rapid lateral flow test and smartphone app for the quantitative determination of blood ferritin levels from home. The rapid test utilises a small capillary blood sample taken quickly and easily from the fingertip. After 15 minutes, the result of the rapid test can be scanned via the SmarTest Ferritin app with the smartphone camera. Results are displayed immediately on the smartphone and are also automatically transmitted to the healthcare team for remote monitoring.*

SmarTest® Ferritin System Features

  • Rapid quantitative home ferritin test
  • Room temperature storage
  • Pocket-sized kit
  • Test takes around 20 minutes in total
  • Free to use App**
  • Free to use web portal for healthcare professional

SmarTest FIT

The detection of haemoglobin in stool is a marker for gastrointestinal bleeding, which in turn may indicate colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal diseases. Hidden (occult) blood in the stool can originate from tumours or polyps in the intestine, among other sources and is therefore used routinely as a screening test for colorectal cancer. When haemoglobin is detected in stools, further investigations are recommended to determine whether the bleeding is from a tumour or a precancerous lesion. Combined with colonoscopy, stool tests for haemoglobin have been shown to reduce mortality.

The Preventis SmarTest® FIT Home test system consists of a rapid immunological test and a smartphone app. The rapid test detects human haemoglobin in stool samples using gold-conjugated anti-haemoglobin antibodies, and the app quantitatively evaluates the result of the rapid test based on the colour intensity of the control and test bands. The result is automatically displayed and saved on the smartphone.

SmarTest® FIT System Features

  • Rapid quantitative faecal haemoglobin (FIT) test for home use
  • Room temperature storage
  • Pocket-sized kit
  • Test takes around 20 minutes in total
  • Free to use App**

Requires a valid Competence Centre. A competence centre can be set up within the Preventis Portal for free by healthcare professionals which serves as a web-based portal to receive and monitor test results from patients participating in a SmarTest program.

** SmarTest Apps are available to download and use free of charge from Google Play Store and Apple App Store and requires a compatible device. Contact BIOHIT HealthCare for compatible devices list.
